I remember that we used to have a sticky thread like this, but surely most of our computers would have needed at least one update since last time around.
So - with many of us now being (supposedly) more adult, and with some new faces, I'm curious if we now run the killer rigs we wished we could afford back then, or if priorities have changed?
CPU: Intel Xeon X5690 (6C12T) overclocked to 4.0 GHz (second-hand) Motherboard: Asus P6T Deluxe Memory: 24 GGB DDR3 Tripple channel Drives: 1x256 GB, 2x480GB (RAID0), 2x1TB (RAID0), all SSDs. Graphic Card: Geforce RTX 2070 Sound Card: Motherboard/built in Speakers: Harman Kardon SoundSticks III Headset: Corsair VOID RGB Wireless PRO Monitor: Samsung 49" Ultrawide 3840x1080 Keyboard: Generic DELL low-profile keyboard Mouse: Logitech G402 Case: Fractal Design Define S2 (New case, essentially a clone of the R6)
Notes: This is essentially the skeleton of the PC I had in the past SOG. Most parts have been upgraded one-by-one, but the motherboard and speakers are unchanged. I'm impressed that a PC from 2008 has had an upgrade-path that enables me to play even the latest games at 60+ FPS on full or near-full settings. Especially considering that most of these upgrades (beside the graphics card) has been very cheap.
And yes, the monitor is amazing - it's great for productivity (I use this PC for work mainly), but also very immersive when gaming. Except SWAT4, which runs as a letterbox in the middle. :/
That's a pretty cool rig, Nico! Especially for a 12 years old board at it's core.
CPU: Intel Core i7-4930K (6C12T), overclocked to 4.2 (all core) - 4.5 (single core) Ghz Motherboard: Asus ROG Rampage IV Black Edition Memory: 32GiB DDR3-1866 Corsair Vengeance Drives: 1*512GiB Crucial SSD + 4*3TB WD Black HDD's in RAID Graphic Card: Geforce GTX 780Ti (overclocked) Sound Card: Creative ZxR Speakers: B&W DM330's Headset: Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro (250 Ohm) Monitor: Asus ROG Swift PG278Q (27", UHD, 144Hz) Keyboard: Razer Blackwidow Ultimate Stealth 2014 with additional O-rings Mouse: Logitech G502 Proteus Core Case: Fractal Design Define R4 Pearl Black
Notes: This rig is getting older. It was quite an ultimate build back in 2014 when I built it; at the time an absolute beast spec-wise. It still serves me well, and although it doesn't run everything on ultra settings anymore it still plays any modern game fine.
Although, to be honest, I'm looking at upgrading or maybe doing an entirely new build. Because in March we'll get a new Half-Life game. And that is a perfectly valid excuse for getting an Index. But to properly drive that headset, I'll need some more upgrades... :p
- Black > Home - [ACC] - Steam «War does not determine who is right, but who is left.»
Notes: This was the rig I posted around mid-2019 and since then I've doubled the memory and swapped out the solid state drive. I still want to swap out my power supply for a modular type and I'm looking to change the graphics card to a 1080Ti. Then.. Maybe then, I'll get round to getting myself a nice monitor
